NRB Urges Customers to Protect OTP to Prevent Fraudulent Transactions

In a recent announcement, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has emphasized the importance of One Time Password (OTP) in ensuring secure electronic transactions. OTP is a unique password that is automatically generated by the service provider's system and sent to the user's registered phone and/or email to confirm their identity and authorize electronic transactions.

However, NRB has cautioned that OTP should never be shared with anyone else, as it is meant to be used only by the registered user within a specified time and for specific purposes. The bank has highlighted that theft of funds through fraudulent OTP requests is a common occurrence worldwide, and users should exercise caution when dealing with electronic payments.

NRB has also reiterated that banks, financial institutions, and payment organizations will never ask for a customer's OTP, and users should never share their OTP with anyone, including well-intentioned individuals they know or don't know.

In conclusion, NRB has urged users to be vigilant when dealing with electronic payments and to protect their OTP from unauthorized access. By taking these precautions, users can ensure the safety and security of their financial transactions in the digital age.
