About Mahila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited
Empowering Women Through Inclusive Microfinance and Sustainable Development
Mahila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MLBSL) is a national-level "D" Class Microfinance Financial Institution licensed by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) under the Bank and Financial Institutions Act, 2073. The institution received its operating license on 2075/06/22 B.S. and officially commenced financial transactions on 2075/07/01 B.S. Its Central Office is located in Sanga-13, Kavrepalanchok, and its authorized working area covers all districts of Nepal.
MLBSL was established with the primary objective of expanding financial inclusion, promoting women's empowerment, and improving the socio-economic conditions of low-income households across Nepal. The institution delivers customer-friendly microfinance services to disadvantaged communities in rural as well as selected urban areas through its nationwide network of branch offices, helping underserved individuals gain access to formal financial services.
Our Background
Mahila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. emerged from the long-standing development work of the Centre for Women Rights and Development (CWRD), a pioneering non-governmental organization established in 1992/93. Initially formed to promote the civil, socio-cultural, and fundamental rights of women, CWRD later expanded its focus toward poverty alleviation and women's economic empowerment through community development initiatives.
Recognizing that sustainable poverty reduction requires collaboration between government institutions and civil society organizations, CWRD began implementing microfinance programs in 2001 after obtaining the necessary license from Nepal Rastra Bank. Through these programs, the organization supported poor and disadvantaged households—particularly women—by providing access to financial services, community development initiatives, and capacity-building programs.
Following the establishment and licensing of Mahila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited, all assets and liabilities related to CWRD's microfinance operations were transferred to MLBSL, enabling the institution to continue and expand its mission under a regulated microfinance framework.
Today, MLBSL continues this legacy by combining inclusive financial services with social development initiatives that strengthen women's economic participation, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and leadership. The institution encourages savings, facilitates access to microcredit, promotes financial security through responsible financial services, and supports women in achieving long-term economic independence.
