Nepal Rastra Bank Urges Public to Stay Alert Against Financial Scams; Highlights Key Warning Signs -

Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has urged the public to remain vigilant against the growing risk of financial scams by identifying common warning signs before sharing money or personal banking information.

According to the central bank, fraudsters frequently use fake links, attachments, phishing messages, and social engineering techniques to deceive individuals into transferring funds or revealing sensitive financial information. Early identification of these "red flags" is considered the first line of defence against financial fraud.

NRB has advised the public to be cautious of unsolicited links or attachments, unusual payment requests, transfers to unfamiliar bank accounts, and anyone asking for confidential information such as usernames, passwords, PINs, or OTPs. The bank has also warned against high-pressure tactics, requests for secrecy, and investment offers that promise unusually high returns with little or no risk.

The central bank further noted that victims of financial scams may face unauthorized fund transfers, theft of banking credentials, and unauthorized access to their devices through remote access or screen-sharing applications.

NRB has urged customers to stop any suspicious transaction immediately, verify requests through official channels, and promptly report suspected fraud to their bank, financial institution, the Cyber Bureau, or the concerned regulatory authority.
