Kathmandu - Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued a new unified directive mandating all Class ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ financial institutions to implement simplified, disability-friendly banking services across the country.
According to the official notice, banks must establish priority counters for senior citizens, illiterate individuals and persons with disabilities.
The central bank's directive further requires the installation of accessible ATMs with Braille and audio support, the operation of at least one disability-friendly branch per local government level and the upgrade of websites, mobile apps, and payment cards with tactile features.
Under these regulations, banks cannot deny digital banking services to individuals who self-declare their ability to use them and consumers can report non-compliance directly via the NRB grievance portal at www.gunaso.nrb.org.np or by calling 01-5719605.
