KATHMANDU - Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued a crucial public notice warning citizens about the rising risks associated with outdated contact information in banking systems. The central bank's Financial Inclusivity and Customer Protection Division strongly urged consumers to immediately notify their respective financial service providers if they change their mobile numbers or email addresses.
According to the official notice released by NRB under its financial literacy initiative, vital banking features such as mobile banking, internet banking, and digital wallets are directly tied to a customer's registered mobile number or email address.
The central bank warned that if a mobile phone is lost, stolen, or its SIM card is swapped without updating the bank, unauthorized individuals could gain access to sensitive financial accounts.
Official Warning from Nepal Rastra Bank:
"If you do not inform your financial service provider in time regarding a lost, stolen, or changed mobile number, there is a high risk of unauthorized individuals gaining access to your highly sensitive financial and account details."
