Nepal Rastra Bank has introduced new banking rules aimed at improving accessibility for visually impaired and differently-abled customers across Nepal.
Under the revised directive, banks and financial institutions must now provide special service counters for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and illiterate customers. Banks are also required to establish at least one disability-friendly branch in every local level.
The central bank has made it mandatory for banks to install ATMs with Braille-enabled buttons and audio support, allowing visually impaired customers to use ATM services independently and securely.
Similarly, banks must provide mobile banking, internet banking, and ATM services to persons with disabilities based on self-declaration. The new rules also require tactile features on debit and credit cards, along with accessible banking apps and websites.
The directive is expected to strengthen financial inclusion and ensure easier access to banking services for all customers.
