Nepal Rastra Bank has issued a financial awareness notice regarding the management of convertible foreign currency held in cash by Nepali citizens.
As per the provisions under Unified Circular–2082, Nepali citizens who have earned foreign currency through foreign employment, business abroad, travel facility savings, or other legal sources are allowed to keep up to USD 1,500 or its equivalent in convertible foreign currency in cash for future use.
If the amount exceeds the prescribed limit, the concerned person must either exchange the excess amount within 35 days or deposit it into a foreign currency account maintained at a bank in Nepal.
Nepal Rastra Bank has requested the public to manage foreign currency safely and in accordance with the prevailing regulations.
