About RSDC Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (RSDCMF)
Empowering Rural Nepal Through Inclusive Wholesale and Retail Microfinance
RSDC Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (RSDCMF) is a National-Level Class 'D' Microfinance Financial Institution licensed by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) under the Companies Act, 2063 and the Bank and Financial Institutions Act (BAFIA), 2063. Established to strengthen Nepal's microfinance ecosystem, RSDCMF is recognized as the third wholesale microfinance institution in Nepal and the first wholesale microfinance institution headquartered outside the Kathmandu Valley.
The institution officially commenced operations on 26 Bhadra 2070 B.S. (11 September 2013) from Butwal, Nepal, with a mission to expand financial access for cooperatives, microfinance institutions, and underserved rural communities across the country.
Background and Institutional Foundation
The concept of RSDCMF originated from the Rural Self-Reliance Development Centre (RSDC), a non-governmental organization dedicated to building a self-reliant and economically empowered society.
Over the years, RSDC successfully promoted 171 Swawalamban Cooperatives across 12 districts of Nepal. These community-based cooperatives were established to mobilize local resources, meet financial needs, and stimulate economic activities within rural communities.
Initially, RSDC planned to establish a financial institution jointly promoted by RSDC and the Swawalamban Cooperatives. However, legal provisions at the time did not permit cooperatives to directly promote financial institutions. To realize its vision, RSDC partnered with the then Lumbini Bank Limited (now Global IME Bank Limited) along with 172 individual promoters from 40 districts, leading to the establishment of RSDC Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd.
This collaborative foundation reflects the institution's long-standing commitment to community development, financial inclusion, and rural economic empowerment.
Bridging the Rural Financing Gap
Prior to the establishment of RSDCMF, wholesale microfinance services in Nepal were largely concentrated in urban and semi-urban areas. As a result, many cooperatives and microfinance institutions operating in rural and remote regions had limited access to institutional funding.
RSDCMF was established to address this financing gap by providing wholesale lending services to cooperatives and microfinance institutions, enabling them to extend financial services to underserved communities. In addition to wholesale financing, the institution has expanded into retail microfinance, further strengthening financial inclusion and supporting sustainable rural development.
Today, RSDCMF continues to empower local institutions by providing wholesale funds, strengthening microfinance organizations, and expanding access to financial services throughout Nepal.

At the time of establishment, RSDCMF had:
Authorized Capital: NPR 20 Crore
