Kathmandu - Santosh Koirala, chief executive officer of Machhapuchchhre Bank Ltd has been unanimously elected to the new President of Nepal Bankers' Association, a representative forum of the country's commercial banks. His unanimous victory came as he was the lone candidate for the post.
The nominations for a new executive committee of the association opened on Monday. Although Ashok Sherchan, CEO of Prabhu Bank, had filed nomination as a candidate for the post of president, he soon withdrew his nomination to make an easy passage for Koirala.
For the post of Vice President, Surendra Regmi, CEO of Global IME Bank, was the only candidate and was unanimously selected. Regarding the posts of members that were vacant, Sudesh Khauling of Everest Bank, Ramchandra Khanal of Kumari Bank, and Tilkaraj Pandey of Nepal Bank had filed their candidacies and were elected unanimously. Khauling, who is already a member, retained his position.
The formal announcement of the new executive committee will be made at the general assembly on Wednesday.
