NBA Hosts Seminar on Integrating Climate Finance and Green Finance Taxonomy in Nepal's Banking Sector

Kathmandu – The Nepal Bankers' Association (NBA), in collaboration with Invest for Impact Nepal, successfully hosted a pivotal seminar focused on integrating Climate Finance and Green Finance Taxonomy into Nepal's banking industry. The event brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for fostering sustainable finance practices within the banking sector.

The seminar featured prominent speakers, including H.E. Dr. Danielle Meuwly, Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal, and Mr. Sunil KC, President of the NBA, both of whom reiterated the association’s strong commitment to advancing sustainable finance. A major highlight of the event was the official launch of NBA's Sustainable Finance Department. The department was inaugurated by Mr. Maha Prasad Adhikari, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, alongside H.E. Dr. Meuwly and Mr. Michael Jongeneel, CEO of FMO Netherlands, marking a significant milestone for the banking industry’s green transition.

The event included a dedicated session on climate finance integration led by Ms. Yulanda C., offering valuable insights into how the banking sector can align with environmental sustainability goals. A distinguished panel consisting of Mr. Guru Prasad Paudel (NRB), Ms. Jace Jeesun HAN (FMO), Ms. Antonia Flück (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation - SDC), Ms. Katja Silva-Leander (Cadmus UK), and Mr. Dipak Kumar De (Nepal SBI Bank) shared their perspectives, with the discussion moderated by Mr. Buddhika Samarasinghe.

The seminar sparked a lively dialogue on the future of green banking in Nepal, underscoring the sector’s role in contributing to a more sustainable and resilient economy. Together, the stakeholders are charting a course for a greener future.
