KATHMANDU: In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability, Nabil Bank has introduced the 'Nabil Digo Bachat Khata', an innovative savings account designed to support environmental conservation and contribute to Nepal’s net-zero carbon emission target by 2045.
This first-of-its-kind savings product in Nepal demonstrates Nabil Bank’s commitment to aligning its operations with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The bank will allocate an additional 0.5% per annum of the total deposit amount under this account towards initiatives focused on reducing carbon emissions.
According to the bank, the funds will be invested in a wide range of impactful environmental programs, including reforestation and tree plantation, renewable energy promotion, waste management, and clean water and energy projects. These activities directly contribute to reducing carbon footprints and promoting long-term ecological balance.
One of the standout features of this account is a symbolic tree plantation in the name of each customer who maintains a semi-annual average balance of Rs. 50,000, reinforcing the personal connection between banking and environmental responsibility.
The Nabil Digo Bachat Khata is accessible to individuals of all age groups, Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs), and non-profit organizations seeking both financial returns and meaningful social impact. The minimum balance to open the account is Rs. 10,000.
To promote digital and paperless banking, the account also offers free lifetime access to nBank and nBank Web platforms for users maintaining the required minimum balance. Additional benefits include:
-
Free debit and credit cards for the first year
-
25% discount on annual locker charges
-
Eligibility for insurance facilities (based on criteria)
By combining financial incentives with environmental action, Nabil Bank reinforces its position as a pioneer in responsible banking. With a network of 268 branches and 320 ATMs, the bank serves over 2.4 million customers nationwide, and has been instrumental in transforming Nepal’s banking landscape for over four decades.
