Surkhet - As a part of CSR activities, Nabil Bank Limited has provided a free health camp to the Raute community of Surkhet. Organized in liaison with Health Nutrition Education and Agriculture Research Development Nepal (HEARD Nepal), the programme was coordinated with the Public Health Service Office, Surkhet.
The health camp treated 137 individuals from 48 Raute families, including 59 women and 78 men. Common health concerns included seasonal colds, pneumonia, skin diseases, gastric issues, and women's health problems like uterus and back pain. A four-member specialized medical team led by Dr. Sujan Sapkota from Karnali Province Hospital provided services that included deworming medicines, vitamins, and iron supplements.
The Raute are an indigenous ethnic group living in Karnali Province. Their poor nutrition, unsanitary living conditions, and minimal access to medical care make them consistently more vulnerable to various health problems. With this knowledge in mind, the health camp by Nabil Bank aimed at health awareness and basic medical services with respect for their cultural practices.
Gyanendra Prasad Dhungana, Chief Executive Officer of Nabil Bank, said this on the occasion, "This is a gesture to our commitment to ensuring improvement in the health and well-being of people, particularly of the marginalized communities, besides raising awareness related to sanitation and health practices.
The event was graced by key representatives, including the head of the Raute community and the local leaders. Bhim Bahadur Bhandari, Chairman of Barahtal Rural Municipality, applauded the bank's efforts and emphasized that such support is very relevant for the endangered communities like that of the Rautes. He said, "The responsibility for the Raute community's development lies with all levels of government, but initiatives like this from Nabil Bank play a vital role. We hope to see more such programs in the future.
