Manakamana Cable Car Goes Digital, Resumes Operation from Today

Kathmandu – After a brief pause for upgrades, the famous Manakamana Cable Car is back in action from today, operating with a fresh digital system. The service, which has been running for 26 years using analog technology, was shut down on July 15 to replace the main cable and upgrade its infrastructure.

Now, with the digital transformation complete, the cable car promises a smoother, safer, and more efficient experience for visitors. Ujjwal Sherchan, the Deputy General Manager at Manakamana Darshan Pvt. Ltd., shared that the upgrade was carried out under the supervision of engineers from the renowned Austrian company Doppelmayr.

Originally launched in 1998, the Manakamana Cable Car is a lifeline for pilgrims traveling to the sacred Manakamana Temple in Gorkha. Its base station is conveniently located in Chitwan’s Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality at Cheres, making the journey to the temple easier for thousands of devotees every year.

With this digital upgrade, visitors can look forward to an even better experience as they ascend to one of Nepal’s most revered religious sites.
