Kathmandu, November 25: In a thrilling display of skill and precision, Norbu Tshiring Sherpa emerged victorious in the 8th edition of the Laxmi Sunrise Bank Invitational Golf Tournament held at Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday.
Playing with a two-handicap, Sherpa showcased his golf prowess by accumulating an impressive 41 stableford points to claim the coveted trophy. His stellar performance included carding birdies on the first, third, fourth, 13th, and 18th holes, while navigating challenges with bogeys on the 12th and 17th holes.
The runner-up position was secured by Ashish Shrestha, who accumulated a commendable 40 points while playing with an 11 handicap allowance.
Tashi Dong bagged the Best Gross Award, displaying exceptional skill with 39 gross points. Among the ladies, Sumitra Khadka emerged victorious with 34 points, while Aarti Rana secured the runner-up position with 33 points.
In the senior category (age 60 and above), Maj Gen (retd) Mahesh Bikram Karki clinched the title with 34 points on a count back after being tied with Tendi Sherpa.
The event witnessed outstanding performances in various categories, with Sadbhav Acharya claiming the Longest Drive Award, Tahir Shah securing the Closest to the Pin title, and Wangchen Dhondup earning the Most Birdies Award with four birdies and one eagle. Bijay Bahadur Shrestha was recognized as the Most Elegant Golfer for sporting the Laxmi Sunrise color outfit.
The Laxmi Sunrise Bank-sponsored tournament, played under a stableford format with a 3/4 handicap, saw the participation of 96 golfers, including seven female golfers.
Ajaya Bikram Shah, the CEO of Laxmi Sunrise Bank, Suhrid Ghimire, President of Gokarna Golf Club, and Captain Joseph Nathan were present to honor and award the winners, adding a touch of grandeur to the closing ceremony. The tournament not only showcased exceptional golf talent but also reinforced the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among participants.
